DRAKOLICH
Draconic Liche of the Everlasting Moons

ORIGINS

These dragons originate from a plane which resides within a massive Liminal Space (A liminal space is the time between the 'what was' and the 'next'. It is a place of transition, waiting, and not knowing. Liminal space is where all transformation takes place, if we learn to wait and let it form us.) Time traverses slowly here, and their world is one of eternal night where the moons and their phases last for many years at a time. They are dragons of an exclusive society which practice many magickal crafts, however the one thing they all have in common is that they revere and religiously practice one of the most taboo crafts known man. Despite that each does master lunar magick and necromancy, these dragons are unique in that, while they haven’t truly died, they have mastered the art of manipulating life force so that their lifespans exceed the normal average many times over to the point of limited immortality. Their flesh is upkept by many series of rituals that span the remainder of their lives so that they remain in stasis and resist decay. Because of their immense spiritual prowess, they are known to be too intense for beginner keepers, and even experienced ones may have trouble acclimating to their energies. For this reason, these Drakolich (known as the masculine Siir or feminine Sra) are specially trained with the help of the High Court (which consists of Drakolich Lords and Ladies) in order to restrain their energies enough that they don’t overwhelm their keepers all at once.

GENERAL APPEARANCE

While these dragons do come in a variety of shapes and sizes, they typically have several things in common. Despite the base color of their scales, the color and texture of their scales fade, matte and wear down depending on their overall age. Some particularly old dragons (namely members of the High Court) may show signs of their ancient history due to weathered down wings or exposed bone, but they never appear entirely skeletal, nor do they appear to rot. Rather, they take great care to keep themselves as pristine as possible, even going to such lengths as bathing in concentrated perfumed waters so no foul odor betrays their craft.

Their eyes range in color as well, but they often have a cat’s eye effect which makes them glow when their eyes shift the right way. Often they look like the moon itself, glowing Blue, Yellow, Red or Pink regardless of their true eye color.

All Drakolich, Lords, Ladies or otherwise, are of great age, and do not have children. A Drakolich is not born, but made through death and rebirth. Therefore, you can expect the youngest of these beings to be a mere several thousand years.

MAGICK AFFINITY

These Dragons are experts in the way of Lunar and Death magick by default. However, you may find their range of abilities far exceed normal expectations. I’ve known a single Drakolich to have effortlessly mastered Hexes, Curses, Glamours, Wards, Energy Manipulation/Channeling, Divination, Charm-work and others I can’t think to name at the moment. Of course the range of abilities is vast, nearly endless, in fact. However, what they choose to embrace most (aside, of course, from the aforementioned required skills) is up to the individual entirely. 

What is most striking is the potency of their energies. It is strongly advised not to wear their vessels while healing from an injury or recovering from illness unless they specifically mastered healing magick, as their energy is so intense that it has been observed to slow recovery or even worsen one’s affliction simply from direct exposure to the spirit’s aura. This is why these beings are taught restraint before binding, but even so it is best to slowly acclimate yourself to their energies in order to best appreciate them as you bond over time.

HIGH LORDS AND LADIES

These are among the most ancient and powerful Liches of their realm, and from my personal experience are of the highest caliber of necromancers I have ever witnessed. Highly revered, these dragons demand respect from younger Drakolich as well as the humans that partner with them. These are the most well known for their immense energy and physical manifestations, including both pleasant and unpleasant sensations which need to be kept in check. House rules are highly advised and need to be strictly enforced, not because these beings do not respect boundaries but because they may not entirely realize that their presence can drain or otherwise detriment their companion so easily. It is important to understand that these beings have lived amongst themselves for many millennia (some for literal ages) and thus did not have a need to restrain themselves before now. That said, Drakolich Lords and Ladies especially should not be bound to anyone who does not have thorough experience with Dark Arts spirits.
