Gargoylean Carbunculi are yet another variant of the giant six-legged cats, but with a far more sinister appearance and daunting personality type. Gargoyleans feature the same basic features: six legs and four eyes, plus several sets of horns which feature gem cores. However, there are many significant differences in this species as well. For starters, they typically grow smaller than Classics. Where the average height in the latter is 13’ tall, Gargoyleans typically stand as approximately 9’. They are far more petite in build than most other Carbunculi, featuring a body type reminiscent to Sphinxes and Siamese. Rather than curling like a ram, their horns curve back in a wicked fashion like those of a dragon, and most striking of all are their most prominent feature: a pair of webbed, bat-like wings with clawed appendages for grasping and climbing. These Carbunculi are most often of the hairless variety, though some may have short, velvety fur.

These Carbunculi are among one of the most reclusive varieties known, making them an elusive and secretive race. They live in a very specific and well guarded ring of mountains where a singular mega-clan of these creatures reside. It is whispered in tales spoken among other Carbuncle species that these were among the very first of their kind to reside primarily in physical realms. Other Carbunculi are said to carry ancestry from these clans, as the Gargoylean race is rumored to be the progenitor to other species of the same family. They are highly protective and territorial — more so than Classic Carbunculi. They are also more aggressive and darker in energies, though they are not without their more charming traits. Their more aloof nature and protective instinct makes them well suited as realm guardians, home protectors and defenders of personal hoards. Unlike with other Carbunculi, these are strictly nocturnal beings, and will typically become more active as the sun sets and until the sun rises.

These creatures are still very much like the Earthen felines in temperament, but rather than showing off more of the sociable, friendly side of their race, Gargoyleans are found to be - for the most part - independent and strong. Indeed, these beings tend to be a little cold at first, but quickly warm up to a companion they have grown to trust. Once that bond is formed, these marvelous and incredibly intelligent beasts become proactive in their person’s safety, fully investing themselves into protecting their newfound friend. When you notice a subtle movement from one of these companions that physically puts them between you and a potential oppressor, you know you have successfully bonded as their “clanmate.” Magickally, they are heavily attuned to the Earth, but much more so with stone and metal ores than gemstones. More often than not, you will find a Gargoylean with metal ore veins rippling over horns of solid rock rather than featuring solid gemstones which form from the center out.
